About Walkies with Elaine

Walkies with Elaine was started off by me Elaine, in January 2022, as a favour for my friend to help walk her dogs. Our dog, George, was old and unable to do the same walks as he used to. It was just a little adventure to keep me fit and get me out. There are so many beautiful parks and places to go in and around Carlisle. I am still learning lots of great places to go. I soon found that there were like-minded, sensible and apprehensive dog owners that needed a dog walker due to work commitments or illness/injury themselves. All of these owners were extremely reluctant to allow others to help yet so in need of someone they could trust for their precious pooch. I soon built up a lovely bond with lots of other lovely dogs (and owners!). Jason my husband has played a large part in building up this small business. George can be seen on the first posts of our Walkies with Elaine Facebook page, however unfortunately we said goodbye to our beloved "prince George" in May 2022.

Services Offered

*ONE HOUR DOG WALK - £15 for one dog (Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm). You decide whether your dog is walked solo or in a group. You can choose where your dog is walked but at Walkies with Elaine we like to mix it up and usually take them to different places for each walk. It’s all about stimulation and fun for your dog. This is not an hourly rate and does not include travel time and your dog may be out of the house for longer periods of time. We do not offer any 30 minute appointments. *ANY ADDITIONAL DOGS in the same household priced at 50% ie. £7.50 per hour for the same walk. *PUPPY VISIT - ONE HOUR £15. This includes shortened walk as it’s important to maintain healthy bone development and reduce walking time for puppies. The remainder of your hour appointment will be spent, if required, feeding your puppy and cleaning any toileting. We feel very strongly at Walkies with Elaine that it is vitally important for socialisation of puppies and so the remainder of the hour appointment is spent engaging in play. For this reason we do not offer any 30 minute appointments. *CAT VISITS - Choose from 30 or 60 minute drop-ins for cat visits and any other small animals. Please enquire for price, this will be dependent on how many animals. Starting from 30 minute visits for £8. Please note that these prices are based on people who live within a 5 mile radius from base. Anyone further than this will occur a small charge for fuel costs of 50p per mile both away from and returning to this 5 mile radius and subject to availability.

Initial Consultation

PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT A DOG TRAINER SO MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST PERSON FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG. The initial consultation is free of charge for us to meet, to make friends with your dog and see if I am the right person. There is no obligation to book any walks once we have met. Also if you feel that I need to come on a few walks with yourself and your dog then this will be done free of charge until you feel confident I am the correct person. I am also inviting anybody to join me on any of my walks with their own dog if you wish for them to be introduced this way. Elaine will always attend the initial consultation. If Jason is ever to walk your dog then he will be introduced and known to your dog prior to walks. During this first consultation you are able to discuss your concerns or special requests. Any strange quirks or needs will be taken on board. Let's face it, lots of them have strange preferences and personalities. We can discuss any issues that you may have or any additional requirements or medication. I am happy to give medication or food if instructed. Information will be required regarding vaccinations, worming, and flea treatment and to ensure everybody is up-to-date with all of these. I am unable to walk any unvaccinated or untreated dogs for the health and safety of all other dogs.

Safety

Your dog's safety is paramount to us at Walkies with Elaine. We will treat your dog with the same love and dedication as we do our own dogs. I am trained in canine first-aid and CPR skills and both of us carry first-aid kits in our vehicles. We are fully insured for dog walking and pet sitting and will always endeavour to take your dog to your own vet in case of an emergency. Both Elaine and Jason are DBS checked and certificates can be viewed if requested. We will remain conscious of security and do not carry all keys round and on our person. This unfortunately means we are unable to provide last-minute dog walks unless given sufficient prior notification. If given any security details then we will ensure that they be kept confidential. Insurance covers key replacement if required. The Walkies With Elaine van is professionaly fitted with spacious dog crates (thanks to Car and Commercial Solutions Ltd, Warrington). This allows us to transport your dogs safely. There is no bulkhead in the van so the dogs can be seen at all times. And the ventilation, air conditioning and heating is shared with the crates. There is a large open section, accessed by the side door, where very large or giant breeds can be harnessed in and use the seatbelt. All dogs, by law, are required to wear a collar and an ID tag. Please ensure your dog has this prior to any bookings. If your dog is lost you will be notified immediately if this arises. We will always be open and honest with you. We will endeavour to do what we would wish if it were our own dogs that had been lost. We have two GPS trackers if your dog needs constant monitoring during the walk. We only allow dogs off the lead with full consent from the owner and assessment by the walker. Walkies with Elaine will only post on social media if full permission is given from the dog owner and never when the dog is home alone. We will also never post any pictures and reveal any information that may be on the dogs ID collar or reveal where the dog lives. All photographs with ID tags visible will be edited and blocked out for safety. We never give any treats to any dogs and will be aware of any allergies. In the event of any altercations between other dogs and your own, please be reassured we will do our very best to protect your dog.

Frequently asked questions

I already have a dog walker is this an issue? Absolutely no issue at all. Whether it’s a week of walks while your dog walker is away or to share the walks equally at Walkies with Elaine we are more than happy to do whatever is needed. We are not territorial about this and have asked other dog walkers for help when we are unable to accommodate. The old saying “many hands make light work”. What happens if I need to cancel the walk? There is no cancellation fee even on the morning of the booking if for any reason you are able to walk your own dog. We all know it’s better that the dogs are walked by their own family. There will be no cancellation fee and no charge even if this happens last minute. If however this becomes a recurring theme and happens regularly, or we are unable to provide appointments for other dog walks and have said no to other bookings, then we may have to revisit this and have a full discussion. Do you do 30 minute walks? Unfortunately we are unable to offer any 30 minute appointment times. If your dog is older or younger and unable to do the full hours walk then we would prefer to do a shorter 30 minute walk and spend the other 30 minutes socialising, playing, feeding and providing a little TLC. How do we pay? Whatever is easier for you. Cash or bank transfer. Some people “pay as you go” for each walk. Some pay weekly or monthly. Invoices and receipts are available if required as done for all walks by Elaine.

Privacy Policy

At Walkies with Elaine, I am fully committed to protecting your privacy. By choosing to use my pet sitting and dog walking services you are giving me permission to collect your information. I will only use your information in accordance with legislation i.e. the Data Protection Act 1998 and in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You give the information directly when you contact me about my services either via message, email or telephone. If continuing with Walkies with Elaine I ask you to fill in registration and a consent form which will require you to give more information. What type of information is collected from you?

I may use your information to enable provision of services, provide invoices and receipts or send a notification of changes to services. Your information is only ever used by the dog walker and not shared or sold to any third party. The only exception is when your information needs to be shared with your vet for the wellbeing of your dog, for lawful purposes or with your consent or at your request. Your information is kept for 7 years in line with regulations from HMRC. After this time if you are no longer using services, your information can be deleted. All information is kept on password controlled mobile devices or paper copies stored in a locked cabinet.
